MY FAVORITE CITY (BY LUNA)

My favorite city
My favorite city is Amsterdam. Is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is part of the province of North-Holland and is located in the west of the Netherlands next to the provinces of Utrecht and Flevoland. The river Amstel terminates in the city centre and connects to a large number of canals that eventually terminate in the IJ.
The oldest wooden building is het Houten Huys[51] at the Begijnhof. It was constructed       around 1425 and is one of only two existing wooden buildings. It is also one of the few examples of Gothic architecture in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, receiving more than 4.63 million international visitors annually.
De Wallen, also known as Walletjes or Rosse Buurt, is a designated area for legalized prostitution and is Amsterdam's largest and most well known red-light district. This neighborhood has become a famous tourist attraction. It consists of a network of roads and alleys containing several hundred small, one-room apartments rented by sex workers who offer their services from behind a window or glass door, typically illuminated with red lights.

KAMP VUGHT (BY LUNA)

Kamp Vught
Kamp Vught was one of three camps in the Netherland during the Second World War. Camp Vught was in Vught near the recreational lake to the Iron Man.
The construction of the camp was in 1942.
On 5 June 1943 it was announced that all children had to leave the camp. Er werd gezegd dat de kinderen naar een speciaal kinderkamp in de buurt zouden gaan, maar zij werden de dag erna getransporteerd naar kamp Westerbork . It was said that the children to a special children's camp in the area would go, but they were the day after transported to Westerbork . Van daaruit werden de kinderen overgebracht naar Sobibór in Polen waar ze vrijwel direct na aankomst door middel van vergassing om het leven werden gebracht. From there, the children were transferred to Sobibór in Poland where she almost immediately upon arrival by gassing were killed. Er zijn 1666 kinderen weggevoerd. There are 1666 children were deported. Sommige kinderen uit een speciaal kinderkamp werden ook weggevoerd naar Auschwitz . Some children from a special children's camp were deported to Auschwitz.

VAN GOGH MUSEUM (BY LUNA)

Van Gogh museum
Life of Vincent Van Gogh:
Was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th century art for its vivid colors and emotional impact.
He suffered from anxiety and increasingly frequent bouts of mental illness throughout his life and died, largely unknown, at the age of 37 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Little appreciated during his lifetime, his fame grew in the years after his death. Today, he is widely regarded as one of history's greatest painters and an important contributor to the foundations of modern art.
Recently acquitted from the hospital, Van Gogh suffered a severe setback in December 1889. His depression gradually deepened. On 27 July 1890, aged 37, he walked into a field and shot himself in the chest with a revolver. He survived the impact and managed to walk back to the Ravoux Inn.
My favorite picture:
Vincent van Gogh painted these sunflowers after leaving his native Holland for the south of France with the dream of starting an artistic community. He began to paint sunflowers to decorate a bedroom for his friend Paul Gauguin.

The series of paintings was made possible by the innovations in manufactured pigments in the 19th Century. Without the vibrancy of the new colors, such as chrome yellow, Van Gogh may never have achieved the intensity of Sunflowers.

These most famous of all sunflowers in art hold at their heart a simple parable about the brevity of life; they are at varying stages in the life cycle, from withered and wilting to vibrant full bloom.

My favourite city (By Gonzalo)

In Holland we went to some cities, and my favourite was Brugge, curiously, in Belgium. I like all the cities in Holland, there were very beautiful and cool, but my favourite was Brugge, no because the cities of Holland are boring and Belgium is better, I prefer Brugge because there were a lot of very beautiful buildings with an impressionant architecture, and also the second tallest tower made with bricks in the world; a lot of rivers crossed the city, one of these had some swans; the streets were very beautiful and decorated, with a lot of clothes shops, souvenirs shops, and also some chocolate shops with a delicious smell. Some people of the exchange prefer Amsterdam, but me no, because I expected more from Amsterdam, but it was very cool, too.

My favourite city:

In these ten days we visited many different cities, and if I have to choose one, I think that I’ll choose Amsterdam. We didn’t stay for a long time, so I wanted to visit more places there. I liked the Anna Frank’s house, and I enjoyed being in the Van Gogh museum, but what I really liked was the Hard Rock Café. I visit it in my free time, and I saw incredible things that I always wanted to see. Amsterdam is not so different to Barcelona, but there are lots of bikes, more than what you can ever imagine. I liked visiting Amsterdam, and I expect to visit it again.

Van Gogh:

Van Gogh was a painter of the nineteen century. In the visit to the museum we saw some of their paints, like “los comedores de patatas” this was one of his firsts paints, and in it you can see how was poor people living. The name is because poor people use to eat only potatoes, or soup. We also saw one of the most famous paints “los girasoles” and they explained us his life. They made us choose a paint, and I liked one that I can’t remember the name, but it was a forest painted with a lot of paint and with different kinds of green. If you are near the paint, you can’t see really well how it is, but if you go a little bit far, you see that it is a beauty forest.

My experience in Holland:

Being in Holland is one of my best experiences, not just for visit a new country, you also know a different way of living, made lots of new friends, and knew a different culture and I also learned a little bit more of English and some words in Dutch.
I’m the exchanged of Selma Bentalev, and she and her family are really sociable. I had a really nice time there, I met her friends, and she take me out everyday.
I miss being there, if I could I would stayed there for a month. There are beautiful views, the people are very kind and sociable, and we had a perfect weather.
But this is just the half of the project, now they have to come and continue their experience and I can’t wait to the seven of April!

Van Gogh's Museum (By Gonzalo)

The 22nd of this month (March) we went by coach to Amsterdam, and also to the Van Gogh Museum. We had a guided tour in the Museum, and the guide explained to us a lot of things obut the life of Van Gogh and his paintings. For example, Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands, but he removed to France, the country on he died. My favourite painting of Van Goghs is “The starry night”, but there wasn’t in this museum, it’s in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. But other of my favourites paintings is “The Sunflowers”. The Sunflowers is a paintig was painted in the year 1888, in France. The painting looks like a sad painting, because the sunflowers are dead, but also it looks a little bit happy because there’s a lot of yellow colour. This paintig has a little bit of japanese style, because it hasn’t any shadow and it ha lines that goes along the images.

Excursion to Den Bosch and Kamp Vught (By Gonzalo)

Today we went by coach to Den Bosch. We visited a very big and beautiful church. The church had a lot of beautiful and colorful stained glasses. Then, the teachers gave for us free time for buy souvenirs, have lunch, visit the city...
At 14:00 pm, we went by coach to a Nazi Concentration Camp, called "Kamp Vught". The Concentration Camp was near to Den Bosch. This Concentration Camp, fortunately, was open only more or less one year and half, but a lot of jewish people died in this place. We visit this place with a guide, and he explained to us a lot of things about this Concentration Camps and his history. We visited the "homes" of the jews that were prisioners. Some of us, at the end of the visit, we wrote a note about what we thought about the Nazi's laws and the Concentration Camps and we put on a wall of the building to entrance to the Concentration Camp, like other people that they visited this Camp. Then, we went by coach to Breda.

When we arrived to the High School "De Nassau", we had a barbacue with all the people that they participed in the exchange (Dutch teachers, our Dutch partners, our teachers and us)for lunch. It was a very full and nice day!

My Dutch Partner (By Gonzalo)

My Dutch partner is called Valerie Desiree Huige. She’s a nice, quiet, a little shy and a tall girl with blond waved long hair, with light skin, with glasses and with a mix of blue and green eyes. Her favourite colour is orange, and her favourite animal is the dog. She was born the first of September of 1995 (now is fifteen years old). Her hobbies are read all kinds of books, specially manga; watch anime series and play with the computer. She likes manga and anime because are funny, very good draw and very addictive; her favourites animes are “Shakugan no shana” and “Zero no tsukaima”. She likes all the music in general, but specially Alexandra Burke and the Japanese song called “The flavor of Life”. Her favourite film is “The hangover”, in Spain called “¿Qué pasó ayer?”. She has a good relationship with her sisters, and of course, with her parents too. She was born in Holland, but when she was nine years old, she moved with her parents and her sisters to Germany (for her mum’s job). The last August, they removed to Holland again. She prefers Holland, because there are no hills and she can stay more near to her family (granny, cousins, aunts, uncles…). Of course, she can speak Dutch and German, and also a very good English and a little bit of Japanese. She likes good people in general (cheerful people, funny people, nice people…) and she doesn’t like bad people in general (mean people, arrogant people…). She also likes the videogames, specially Nintendo games, like “New Super Mario Bros.” for the “Nintendo DS”; because there are very funny and addictive and with these games you can connect it with other people.

Visit to Kinderdijk and The Hague (By Gonzalo)

Yesterday (17th/03/2011) we went by coach to Kinderdijk and The Hague. Kinderdijk is a village in the Netherlands, about 15km east of Rotterdam. Kinderdijk is very famous, because there are some wind mills. The wind mills are very typical things in Holland. There are 19 wind mills in Kinderdijk. The wind mills work with wind (obviously), but they don't grind wheat or something similar, they control the level of the water of the rivers that are near of them. We went inside a wind mill, and it was very big and beautiful, all done with wood.
Then, we went to the coach and we went to the Hague, is the home of the Queen of Holland, a very very beautiful and big palace. We made a tour visiting some places of the Hague (the Queen's palace, is very beautiful and huge church...) and then, we had free time for buy souvenirs and other things. Then, we went to the coach again and we arrived to Breda. It was a very cool excursion! :D

First day in Holland. My experience. (By Gonzalo)

Yesterday, it was my first day in Holland. When I arrived to the high school De Nassau, I felt a little bit shy waiting my Dutch partner and her family. When she arrived with her father, I felt more shy. Her name is Valerie, and her father's name is Eric. Valerie's father is very cheerful and funny! When we arrived to their house, I thought (Oh dear! This house is enormous! And very beautyful!). The house has two gardens and three floors. My room is on the third plant. When I was putting my suitcase in my room, I met Valerie's sisters, Isabel and Sophie. Then, I went downstairs carefully (by the way, the stairs are very very very steep!) and I showed my presents for the Dutch family (a lot of cured ham and olive oil) to Eric, but he said "Wait a moment! My wife is almost home. Do you want to keep the present for show late to the full family? Hehehe" I said "OK". When Eric's wife arrived home, she kept me three kisses, and she said "nice to meet you". Her name is Desiree (like the second name of Valerie) and she's very cheerful, like her husband! Then, I showed the presents to the family, but, oh dear! Isabel, the sister of Valerie, is vegetarian! But she said "I never eat meat, but thanks anyway :)". Then, I spoke 2 minuts with my mother with telephone (the Dutch family insisted to me for call to my mother in Spain, and I couldn't say no.). Then, we went to a chinese restaurant for have dinner and I ate noodles (my first time in a chinese restaurant, and curiously, in Holland xD). Then, we went home, and I was playing with Valerie with her computer and I chatted with she. Then, I brushed my teeth, and I went to bed. The family were very very very nice with me! :D

I hate onion and spiders.
I’m allergic to cúrcuma (a spice) and to

Our town, Vilanova

Vilanova i la Geltrú is a very beautiful city.
Vilanova has a beach where in the summer you can swim, but in winter the water is so cold.
We have two cinemas and a bowling.
In the center of the city there are many shops, for example:
McQuinn. Pull and Bear, Bershka, Zara, etc.
There are many cool discos.
If you wanna come with ship, we have a harbour.
Finally there is a skatepark opposite the football field.
